CLIMBING WALL DEVELOPMENT INSTRUCTOR

The Climbing Wall Development Instructor (CWDI) certification, administered by Mountain Training, is designed to train and assess individuals in the necessary skills to supervise and teach lead climbing on climbing walls. This qualification is highly regarded in the outdoors industry and is considered essential for those seeking employment at climbing walls, working with school groups, and engaging in voluntary sector activities.

The CWDI program serves as a valuable resource for climbers who wish to enhance their personal skills and stay up to date with current best practices in the field. By pursuing this qualification, climbers can broaden their knowledge and understanding of the most effective and safe techniques used in lead climbing on climbing walls.

To be awarded the CWDI a candidate must complete the training course and pass the separate assessment. All candidates should leave a minimum of 3 months between training and  assessment courses in order to consolidate the techniques learned and to develop their own personal and group skills.

Before you come on a training course you must be 18 or over, have passed a CWI or RCI, have registered for the award with the Mountain Training and have lead indoors on at least 60 occasions.

These courses are based either in Leeds at Big Depot or at Awesome Walls and The Foundry in Sheffield.
